Each individuals grows in a different place, dropping twigs in their own rhythm, and I happen to pick them up and find them on my workbench. The reason why these short twigs met is because I can't throw away the ends of twigs and I've been collecting them. There are various reasons why they are small but have a good shape, or the bark is very beautiful. I know I should throw them away right away, but it's not that easy.

それぞれが異なる場所で育ち、各々のリズムで小枝を落とし、私に偶然拾われて、作業台の上で居合わせた小枝です。どうして短い小枝達が出会ったのかというと、私が創作で出てくる小枝の端を捨てられずに溜め込んでいるから。小さいけれど良い形をしていたり、樹皮がとても綺麗だったりと理由は様々です。すぐに捨てるべきとは思いつつも、そう簡単にはいかないものです。

They have different barks. The ages are also different. Since they grow in different places. But when I saw them lined up, I thought there was a rhythm to the colors of our scenery. Twigs that have grown up within the same balance of scenery may well be connected from the start by invisible ties.

彼らは樹皮が違う。年齢も違う。育った場所も違う。でも並んでいる様子をみていると、そこには私の居る風景が持つ色のリズムがあるように思えます。同じ風景のバランスの中で育ってきた小枝は、見えない関係でもともと繋がっているのかもしれません。

Focusing on the characteristic shared by branches—that they taper toward the tip—we sought a common cross-section hidden within each twig. It was a process of connecting the unique qualities of each branch, uniting them as a single branch grown in this region.

ここでは枝に共通する先端に向かうほど細くなる性質に着目し、それぞれの小枝が隠し持っていた共有できる断面を探しました。それぞれの枝が持つ個性を、この地域で育つ一本の枝として繋ぎ合わせていく作業です。

It was a process that quickly hit a dead end whenever one tried to find points of connection based solely on one party's convenience.
I felt that perhaps local culture had gradually taken shape in just this way.

それは片方の都合で繋がれる部分を探そうとすると、すぐに行き詰まってしまう作業でした。
地域の文化はこうしてゆっくりと出来てきたのかもしれないと感じました。

I hope that rhythm and balance will lead to harmony.
