At the end of winter, as spring begins, thrushes and lilies sway in the spring breeze.
春の始まる冬の終わり、春風にそよぐツグミとユリ。

Lilies bloom in summer, release their seeds in autumn, and winter husks sway in the spring south breeze. That's their rhythm.
Tsugumi comes searching in winter and, urged by the spring south breeze, depart north. That's their rhythm.

ユリは夏に咲いて秋に種を飛ばし、冬に残した花殻を春の南風にそよがせます。
それが彼らのリズム。
ツグミは冬に探し物をしにやって来て、春の南風に促されて北へと旅立ちます。
それが彼らのリズム。

The lilies and Tsugumi are sharing our scenery right now. The lilies flower that bloom in summer never see the orange Tsugumi, and the Tsugumi that fly away in spring never see the white lilies flower. They are part of the same scenery, but perhaps they don't know each other very well. I used to think that elements of a scenery knew each other well, but it seems it's not that simple.

ユリとツグミがこの風景の中で共に過ごしているのは今。夏に咲くユリの花は橙色のツグミを見ることはなく、春に飛び立つツグミはユリの白い花を見ることはありません。同じ風景の一部だけれど、彼らはお互いの事をよく知らないのかも知れません。風景の要素はお互いをよく知っている者同士だと思ってきましたが、そう単純ではなかったようです。

I've always thought that it's relatively easy to prove that things are related, but it's difficult to clearly show that they're not related. Amidst all this, there's a pebble that has witnessed the changing seasons countless times, polished by the water of the river flowing through the valley. Perhaps this intelligent pebble, with its overwhelming amount of observational experience, knows the hidden balance between the lily and the Tsugumi.

関連し合っていることを証明するのは比較的容易だけれど、関連し合っていないことを明確に示すのは難しいと常々思っています。そんな中、谷を流れる川の水に磨かれながら巡る季節を幾度も見てきている小石。圧倒的な観察量をもつ賢い小石ならば、ツグミと百合の間にある隠れたバランスを知っているのかもしれません。
