集落に新しいカフェができるようです。以前からあった建物を修繕したり、新しい建物が建ったり。空き家が出てきたり、以前あったはずの何かがなくなっていたりする一方で、新しくこの地で暮らしが始まったり、集落へ通うようになったりしているようです。今は春、ドウダンツツジが満点の星空のように、小さな花を満開に咲かせています。

It looks like a new cafe is opening in our valley. Some buildings that were there before are being renovated, and new ones are being built. While some houses are becoming vacant and some things that used to be there are gone, it seems that new people are starting to live in this area and coming to the valley. It's spring now, and D_azalea are in full bloom, their tiny flowers like a sky full of stars.

これは地域のメンテナンスで出てきたドウダンツツジの枝。木材はこの集落を囲む山々で育てられてきた杉。集落の建物から、古くは江戸の街に用いられてきた素材です。石は集落の谷が磨いてきた河原の小石。石灰を採取してきた武甲山の下流域に当たる、この地域の小さな特徴を示す石灰岩です。

This is D_azalea branch that was pruned during local maintenance work.The wood is Japanese cedar grown in the mountains surrounding the village. It was also used for village buildings, and was a material that created the townscapes of the Edo.The stones are pebbles from the riverside in the village valley, polished by the river water. They are limestone that represents a small feature of this area, downstream of Mount Buko where lime has been extracted.

風景は循環するリズムで変化します。一方で街が持つ変化のリズムが速すぎると寂しさを感じ、その変化が遅すぎれば衰退しかねないと不安を覚えます。バランスの前に、まずリズムに気を留めるてはどうかと考えています。リズムを理解しようと努め、バランスを考え直すことで美しいものが生まれるなら、その先には調和があるように思います。

The scenery changes with a cyclical rhythm. If the rhythm of a town's changes is too fast, it can be lonely, and if the rhythm of a town's changes is too slow, it can lead to decline. I think that before balance, I should focus on rhythm. If striving to understand rhythm and reconsidering balance leads to something beautiful, then it seems that harmony is what lies ahead.

異なるもの相互のバランスを考え直す事で新たな価値がうまれるとしたら、それは希望のようなものだと思います。

If new value can be created by reconsidering the balance between different things, I think that would be something like hope.

これは仮説で、とりとめない調査の過程です。
この個体が風にそよぐ姿には、一定のようでいて均質ではないリズムがあります。そこには均衡があって、予想できる安堵があります。だからこそ、不意の強い風を待つ自分がいたりするのかもしれないなと思っています。

This is a hypothesis, and a rambling process of research.
There is a rhythm to the way this individual sways in the wind that seems constant but is not uniform. There is a balance, a predictable sense of relief. I think that this is why I might find myself waiting for a sudden strong wind.

I hope that rhythm and balance will lead to harmony.
