These are fragments of land polished by the valley water and twigs dropped by the cherry trees planted along the riverbank.The cherry blossoms that bloomed so beautifully this spring have now scattered in an instant, and the trees are growing lush green leaves in preparation for next spring. The magnificent rhythm has begun to revolve.

谷の水が磨いた石灰岩と、川岸に植えられた桜が落とした小枝です。
今年の春も美しく咲いた桜は瞬くように散って、来年の春に備えて青葉を茂らせてきています。大きなリズムがまた巡り始めたように感じます。

Looking at the tips of the cherry tree branches that extended all the way to the bridge, I could feel the changes in the winter buds day by day as they prepared to bloom. It seems that many of the cherry trees were planted over the last 100 years. The increase in stumps of older cherry trees is inevitable, as trees have a lifespan. It seems as though there are multiple layers of rhythm within a single cherry tree.

橋の近くまで伸びた桜の枝先を見ると、開花までの冬芽の変化を日々感じることができました。そんな桜の多くはこの100年の間に植えられたものが多いのだそうです。樹齢を重ねた桜の切り株が増えたのは、木にも寿命があるので仕方のない事。一本の桜の中にも複層したリズムがあるように思えます。

Nearby, along the riverbank, limestone that has spilled from the land is slowly being polished by the river water. It seems like an inexhaustible resource. The limestone that is visible above the river surface must also be changing little by little, but I cannot perceive that change to my own senses. The scales are too different.

その傍の川辺では、土地から溢れた石灰岩がゆっくりと川の水に磨かれています。まるで尽きることがないかのように思える資源です。川面に顔を出している石灰岩も少しづつ変化しているはずなのですが、私の尺度ではその変化を実感として認識できません。

Our scenery is always changing. There are small_fast rhythms, and large_slow rhythms. If the change is too fast, I feel lonely, and if it is too slow, I feel uneasy. I feel there is an ideal rhythm for things. I don't know the correct rhythm, though.

風景はいつも変化しています。そこには小さく早いリズムもあれば、ゆっくりとした大きなリズムもあります。変化が早すぎれば寂しく、遅過ぎれば不安を感じるもので。物事にはあるべきリズムがあるのだろうと思っています。

When I see a young cherry tree propped up next to a cherry tree stump, I feel a sense of joy. I'm sure the wild birds that enjoyed the nectar in the spring feel the same way.
The magnificent rhythm begins to rotate again, swaying in the wind.

桜の切り株のその傍に、誰かによって添木された桜の幼木を見ると、なんだか嬉しい気持ちになります。春に蜜を楽しんできた野鳥達もきっと同じ気持ちのはずです。大きなリズムがまた風にそよいで回り始めます。
