A mountain pigeon was carrying a twig in its beak.
It's a moment I often encounter in spring, and I hope to capture it in a photograph someday. Since waiting around wouldn't bring good fortune, I did some research and discovered that they have two roles: one is to carry branches, and the other is to receive those twigs in their nest. I realized this wasn't just a matter of blindly carrying twigs. They carefully examine the twigs and carry them carefully to avoid breaking them; they're very serious about it. I think they're doing a job very similar to mine.

それは春によく出会う瞬間なのですが、私はそれをいつか写真で捉えたいと思っています。待っていても幸運は訪れないので調べてみると、彼らは木の枝を運ぶ役割と、巣でその小枝を受け取る役割に分かれているのだそうです。これはもう闇雲に小枝を運べば良いという問題ではないのだな、と思いました。小枝を吟味し、折れないように運ぶ彼らは真剣なのです。私ととてもよく似た仕事をしているなと思います。

The twig that the bird holds so preciously in its mouth was dropped by the tree at its own rhythm. I feel it is a carefully selected building material and a something to look at.

小鳥が大事そうに咥えた小枝は、木が自分のリズムで落としたもの。それは吟味した建築素材であり、見出した鑑賞物です。

I'm sure they're thinking, "I wonder if I should use this twig around there. It's a nice shape." They're sure to take it home with them. I think we'll be able to have a good discussion about twigs. They are smart because they don't pick up everything.

この小枝はあの辺りに使おうかな、良い形だよね。と大事に持ち帰っているに違いありません。そのあたりに関しては、彼らと話が合うだろうと思っています。

I admire spaces and objects that are created in such a way that the environment is uplifted by understanding the materials available from the scenery. When I left architectural design, a very talented young man gave me a book as a gift. It was a book about vernacular architecture. It's a wonderful memory.

風景から得られる素材を理解して、環境が隆起するようにつくられた空間やものに憧れます。
