There are many old concrete structures along the valley river, and I suspect some of them are the remains of simple bridges. Modern concrete structures gradually crumble, but this demonstrates their far greater durability compared to decaying plant-based structures.

谷の川にはいくつもコンクリートの古い構造物があって、そのいくつかは簡易な橋の跡ではないかと思っています。コンクリート製の近代の遺構は徐々に崩れていきますが、腐朽する植物性の構造物に比べて遥かに耐久性が高いことを物語っています。

Judging from the condition of the bridges that are still in use today, I imagine that as people's lifestyles in the area change, simple bridges that are washed away by floods will no longer be rebuilt. When I see such structures and the concrete fragments polished by the river, I am reminded of the obvious fact that nothing lasts forever.

今でも使われている橋の様子から、地域での人の暮らし方が変化すると、簡易な橋は増水で流されても復旧しなくなるのだろうと想像しています。そうした構造物や川に磨かれたコンクリート片を見ると、永遠ではないのだなと当たり前のことを思ったりしています。

On the other hand, there are several places where lilies grow from cracks in the concrete. I've heard that lilies store energy in their roots as they grow, and every year lilies bloom from cracks in the retaining wall. I don't know where their roots spread, but they seem to have grown there. Since I noticed them, the lilies have been repeating the same rhythm there.

その他方で、コンクリートの裂け目から百合が育つ場所が何箇所かあります。百合は根に力を蓄えて育つと聞いているのですが、毎年擁壁の裂け目から咲く百合も。根などどこに広げるのかわからないけれど、そこに育ったようでした。私が気づいてから百合は同じリズムをそこで繰り返しています。

It was a appearance that seemed to exist only because of a small trigger, something that, if missing, would have caused it to fall apart. The piece of concrete that drew me in contained a single corroded rebar. Here, that rebar has been expanded with a brass rod and incorporated as part of this lily.

それは何かが欠けてもうまくいかなくなるような、小さなきっかけがあったからこそのような、そんな姿でした。私が惹かれたコンクリート片には、腐食した鉄筋が一本入っていました。ここではその鉄筋を真鍮のロッドで拡張し、この百合の一部としています。

Perhaps nothing lasts forever, but there may be a "rhythm" instead.
