I built a bridge across the branches.

枝に一本の橋を渡し、佇まいを整えました。

Driven by the force of the rainwater gathered in the valley by the mountains during the rainy season, the nameless bridge had, as expected, been swept away. Like a raft moored in the shallows of the valley, it floats gently, tethered to a wire.

梅雨の山が谷に集めた水の力で、名前のない橋がやっぱり流されていました。谷の浅瀬に停留する筏（イカダ）のように、ワイヤーに繋がれゆったりと浮いています。

This bridge girder, waiting to be returned to its pier, seems to have a rhythm of its own. And I feel there is a sense of local balance in the way it is returned to its pier before one realises it.

橋脚に戻されるのを待つこの橋桁には、流されるリズムがあるようです。そして、いつの間にか橋脚に戻されるのには、地域のバランスがあるのだろうと思います。

The key is deciding where to build the bridge. A bridge built after careful consideration can drastically alter the balance.

橋はどこに渡すかが肝要です。見定めてつくった橋は、バランスを大きく変えます。

Faced with a bridge that is too heavy for one person to repair, I feel there is something I need to know.

小さいとはいえ1人では重くて戻せない流された橋桁を前に、私には知るべき事があるように思います。

The other day, I came across an old man mowing the grass near the base of a pillar.
I wanted to talk to him, but the sound of his lawnmower engine and the flowing water made it impossible for me to speak.The old man was in a wide open area on the opposite bank of the river, and the bridge to cross had still been washed away.

先日ちょうど柱脚の近くで草刈りをする老人に会いました。
話を聞いてみたかったけれど、草刈機のエンジン音と川を流れる水の音を聞きながら、
私は話しかけることができませんでした。
彼が居たのは広い方の対岸で、渡るための橋が流されたままだったのです。

I hope that rhythm and balance will lead to harmony.
