It may not be widely known, but the white egret pauses time.
Just before crouching to take flight, they come to a standstill for the briefest of moments. It is unclear whether they are halting their movement or if time itself has stopped, yet it is precisely because of that instant that their takeoff is so graceful.

あまり知られていないことなのかもしれませんが、白鷺は時間を止めます。
飛び立つために身をかがめるその少し前、ごく僅かなあいだ彼らは静止します。彼らが動きを止めているのか、時間の方が止まっているのか判然としませんが、その瞬間があるからこそ彼らの飛び立つ姿は優雅なのです。

Their wings, translucent white in the sunlight, catch the breeze and unfurl with surprising slowness.
As they move back and forth across the valley stream, passing beyond the riverside bamboo grove, they present a fleeting image—as if time itself had come to a standstill. It is a moment that lasts neither long enough to be studied at leisure, nor so briefly that it is instantly forgotten.

陽を受けて白く透ける翼は風を抱え、驚くほどゆっくりと広がります。
川辺の竹林を越えて谷の川を往来する彼らは、眺めていられるほど長くはなく、忘れてしまうほどで短くはない、時間が止まったかのような一瞬の姿を持っています。

It seems that the feathers they drop can only be found during this season when they gather at the colony. While they leave the valley to raise their young, the dazzling green of young bamboo begins to emerge, one after another, from the mist that returns the rains of the wet season to the sky.

そんな彼らが落とすこの羽根は、彼らがコロニーに集まるこの時期にしか見つけることができないようです。彼らが子育てのために谷を離れている頃、記憶になかった青竹が梅雨を還す霧の中から次々に現れてきます。

I noticed the heron's presence and learned that it sometimes disappears with the changing seasons. After a while, I also noticed the beauty of the bamboo that was always beside the heron. Everything had been there from the beginning. It was a similar feeling to suddenly realizing the wind was blowing.

鷺がいたことに気がつき、鷺がいなくなる時期があることを知りました。
そして鷺の傍にずっとあった竹の美しさに気づきました。全ては元々そこにあったものでした。それはある時に、風が吹いているのだなと気が付いた事ととてもよく似ています。
