The shallow river that flows through the village quickly swells as it collects mountain rain. It is said that when the water rose, they would build rafts from trees harvested from the mountains and float them to the city. There were several difficult spots where the raft could easily get stuck, and an agreement had been made with the village to help the raft in case it ran aground. There are still some songs from that era that are slightly mellow and carefree.

集落を流れる浅い川は、山の雨を集めてすぐに増水します。その増水に合わせて収穫した山の木で筏（いかだ）を組み、流して街へ運んでいたそうです。川には筏が引っかかりやすい難所がいくつかあり、座礁した際に助ける取り決めが流域の集落と結ばれていたとのこと。その時代のほんのり助平で呑気な歌が残されています。

Bamboo grass is resilient against such rising waters. Able to withstand the churning current, it grows in dense clusters along the banks, serving as a vital habitat for small flora and fauna. Pigeons—seemingly carefree yet knowledgeable—never overlook such spots. Then, when the rain falls, the valley stream gathers water from the mountains and transforms into a torrent capable of sweeping everything away.

そんな増水に強いのが笹。攪拌に強い彼らは岸辺に群生し、小さな動植物の暮らす大切な場所にもなっています。呑気なようで物知りな鳩はそんな場所を見逃しません。そしてまた雨が降れば谷の川は山の水を集め、全てを流してしまうような急流に変わります。

The ceaseless flow of pebbles gradually alters the shape of the riverbank, creating shallows where rafts might snag or giving the advantage to bamboo grass. This is a fragment of the riverside scenery, based on such rhythms and balance.

止めどなく流されてくる小石によって岸は少しづつ姿を変え、筏の引っかかる浅瀬を作りだしたり、笹に優先権を与えたりするようです。これはそんなリズムとバランスに基づく、川辺の風景の欠片。

When the season comes, many small birds eat nuts from trees and scatter seeds, and by giving them nuts, trees transport the seeds to distant locations. I think it's a very good relationship with a sustained rhythm. And the balance is only possible when there are birds of prey that target the small birds.

多くの小鳥は時期が来ると木の実を食べて種を撒き、木は実を与える事で種を離れた場所に運んでもらいます。持続的なリズムを持った良い関係だと思います。そしてその小鳥を狙う猛禽類がいてこそのバランスです。

I admire the ukiyo-e prints that depict familiar plants and my neighbor's birds. Apparently, during the Edo period, common people like me lived in small houses. Therefore, not everyone could keep small birds or grow plants freely. Going on a journey is also difficult. That's why they decorated their rooms with trendy birds and plants, and enjoyed the feeling of traveling through ukiyo-e prints of famous tourist spots. (I'm sure there are various theories, so please understand that I've researched and written a little about what I know :)

私は身近な植物や隣人の鳥を描いた浮世絵に憧れます。江戸の頃、私のような庶民は小さな家に住んでいたそうです。だから自由に小鳥を飼ったり、植物を育てることはできませんでした。旅に出るのも大変なこと。だから流行りの小鳥や植物を部屋に飾り、有名な観光地の浮世絵で旅の気分を楽しんだのだそうです。

I used materials created by the cyclical rhythm of the scenery. Feathers dropped by birds and twigs dropped by trees. Scenery change, but they last as long as the scenery remains balanced. This is the scenery of my area. This is just a momentary snapshot of the scenery there. Please enjoy it.

その風景が周期的なリズムで創り出している素材を用いました。鳥が落とす羽根や木が落とす小枝。風景は変化していくものですが、風景のバランスが保たれている限りこれらは持続的です。ここにあるのは私のいる地域の風景です。そこにある風景のほんの一瞬を切り取ったもの。ぜひ楽しんでください。
