Cedar trees have been grown in the mountains for generations. Keyaki trees are growing freely by the river. The cedar trees in the mountains become my studio, and the zelkovas by the river give me twigs.

山で代々育てられているのはだいたい杉。川辺で勝手に育っているのはだいたい欅。山の杉は私のスタジオになっていて、川辺の欅は私に小枝をくれました。

My studio is located in a small valley. There is a forestry industry in the surrounding area. The river in the valley is a passageway for water and wind. The wind gently shakes the branches of the zelkova trees growing on both banks, causing the twigs to fall, and the ever-flowing water floats the fallen twigs and carries them away, slowly decomposing them.

私のスタジオは林業地にある谷あいの集落にあります。谷の川は水と風の通り道。風は両岸に育つ欅の枝をたゆやかに揺らして小枝を落とし、いつも流れている水は落ちた小枝を浮かせて運び、じっくりと分解していきます。

Here, wind-broken twigs were mended with brass branches, giving them a new fulcrum as they flowed through the river. I admire the way of thinking that led to the creation of the Kintsugi method.

ここでは、風に折れた小枝に真鍮の枝を繕い、川を流れる小枝が得た新しい支点を与えました。私は金継ぎの手法を生み出すこととなったその考え方に憧れています。

I don't know the whole thing, but I feel that the balance of the scenery in this area is created through the overlapping of large rhythms and small rhythms, mediated by water and wind.

大きなリズムと小さなリズムが重なり合って、水と風とを介しながら、この地域にある風景のバランスができているように感じています。

I wonder how many complex chains are behind this simple chain of balance.
I hope that rhythm and balance will lead to harmony.
