This is a twig that the pine drops in the rhythm of winter. The pioneering pines seem to be exposed to a lot of wind, and are good at sealing up wounds with resin. There are traces of broken branches on the thick branches, and there are countless traces of broken twigs on this branch as well. The cyclical rhythm gives me a different twig each time.

これは松が冬のリズムで落とした小枝です。先駆的に育つ松は風を受けることが多いと見え、樹脂によって傷を塞ぐ力に長けています。太い枝にはこの枝が折れた跡が残り、この枝にも小枝の折れた跡が無数にあります。循環するリズムは毎回異なる小枝を私にくれます。

Pines have a smooth bark beneath their rough bark. When the top branches of a pine tree break and weather, the bark of the tree is sometimes exposed. Its nature that suggests the passing of time is called JIN in Bonsai, and is one of the techniques used to create an atmosphere. On the other hand, traditional washi paper has a method for efficiently extracting the bark. Participating in the manufacturing process of making paper from bark, and the experience of peeling the bark of a mulberry tree has become a source of inspiration for me. Hosokawa Washi, produced in nearby Ogawa Town, is a UNESCO cultural heritage site. The process is also rich in suggestions.

松は荒い樹皮の下に滑らかな木肌を持っています。先端の枝が折れ風化する過程で、木肌が露出することのある松。過ぎた時間を示唆するその性質は、盆栽ではジンと呼ばれ風情を作り出す技法のひとつとなっています。一方で、樹皮を効率的に取り出す手法に長けているのが伝統的な和紙。樹皮から紙を作り出す製造工程に参加し、楮の樹皮を剥いた体験は私の糧になっています。近くの小川町で製造される細川和紙はユネスコの文化遺産。その工程も示唆に富んでいます。

I admire deeply the thought which has led to kintsugi, which repairs broken vessels with lacquer and find new beauty. I selected one of the missing branches and repaired it with a brass branch. This policy was decided by me, and the brass branches began to grow according to my will. However, its length and curve are determined by balance. Twigs and I have clashed many times, but we have talked things through. Perhaps this brass branch stretches out between freedom and harmony. Please ask this pine twig about me. 私は割れた器を漆で繕い、新たな美しさを創り出す金継ぎを生み出したその思想に憧れています。私は失われていた枝の付け根をひとつを選び、真鍮の枝で繕いました。この方針は私が決めたもので、真鍮の枝は私の意思により伸び始めたものです。でも、その長さや曲線はバランスが決めたものです。私と小枝のお松は何度も衝突しましたが、話し合いを重ねてきました。もしかしたら、自由と調和の波間にこの真鍮の枝は伸びていたりするのかもしれません。私の事はこのお松に聞いてください。彼は私をよく知っていますし、私もこの友人をよく知っています。
